On April 13, the Foundation invites you to join the continuation of the Social Security and Retirement Taxes seminar from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. via Zoom. If you missed part one, the recording is available to watch online at your convenience. Click here to view the recording. 

During this seminar, Ken Sokol will cover some of the factors to consider for social security decisions and optimizing the benefits associated. This includes the financial need, other financial resources, tax implications to consider, and more. Ken will also share case studies on a few topics. 

Ken Sokol retired from Hallmark Cards, Inc. as a senior industrial engineer in 2002 after 29 years, and has since been putting his technical skills toward the area of financial planning. Ken holds an MBA and completed the Financial Planning course of study at UMKC (University of Missouri at Kansas City). Ken wrote a weekly retirement/investment newsletter for 16 years which was distributed to many Hallmark employees and retirees. Ken has co-authored papers with Professor Randy Gardner, UMKC, addressing Social Security and retirement distribution planning.  Ken has written several white papers and a few booklets as a consultant for insurance companies. Currently, Ken serves on a Washington DC task force for NASI (National Academy for Social Insurance) addressing various aspects of Social Security.

Kansas Area United Methodist Foundation Seminary Scholarship
Deadline: July 15, 2021
The Seminary Scholarship Fund of the Kansas Area United Methodist Foundation provides scholarships for ministerial students who are attending a theological school and working toward ordination in the Great Plains Conference of the United Methodist Church. This Fund originated with the Kansas West Conference, seeking to create a large endowment to support seminary students.  
   



Pass the Torch Scholarship
Deadline: July 15, 2021
The Pass the Torch Scholarship Fund is a ministry of retired clergy, spouses, and surviving spouses of the Great Plains Conference committed to significantly increasing the amount of funds to educate quality seminary students to lead our church.

The Foundation’s investments were again mixed in the short-term, however, they have been strong long-term. (Rate effective as of March 1, 2021. Rates subject to change. Interest Rates for the Certificate of Participation Investment are reviewed on a monthly basis and as needed.)

Certificates of Participation are offered to churches, organizations, and individuals throughout Kansas and Nebraska to help support the Church and Ministry Loan Fund. Church and Ministry Loans are available to churches and ministries throughout the Great Plains Conference.
