Praise Report for 2020

For many of us, 2020 has been a challenging year in many ways. At the beginning of the year, no one likely envisioned the COVID-19 pandemic consuming a large part of our time as we worked on ways to gather safety and find alternatives to still meet online.

Despite the difficulties the year brought, God is still at work in our churches, communities, and across our state and globe! We give thanks that in the past 12 months the Kansas Area United Methodist Foundation gave over $1.9 million to support local churches, church-related agencies and organizations, and other charitable causes. Together, the generosity of so many is making a difference!

This year brought a few "firsts" for the Foundation. For the first time, the Foundation offered trainings and seminars solely via an online platform. Through the use of technology, the Foundation offered two Leaving a Lasting Legacy Workshops and began the Learn & Grow Seminar Series that focuses on various educational topics for clergy and laity. The Foundation also encouraged individuals and families to make a lasting difference on Giving Tuesday and give to the endowment fund for their church or other organizations. Through your generosity, more than $14,400 was raised to make a lasting difference on Giving Tuesday!

During the year, nine families worked on their estate plan with an attorney who works with the Foundation. Through the planning process, the families were able to ensure their loved ones would provided for and their charitable wishes would be honored. Thank you to these families and others who completed the estate planning process in 2020!

The generosity of many partners allowed the Foundation to make a difference through giving 17 Pathways for Discipleship Grants to help start new ministries and make disciples of Jesus Christ. Thank you to all the families who have given, now and in your estate, to make these grants possible.

In addition, the Foundation is honored to support the next generation of Great Plains Conference clergy by providing seminary scholarships through the KAUMF Seminary Scholarship Fund and the Pass the Torch scholarship. In 2020, the Foundation gave more than $17,000 in seminary scholarships. Thank you for investing in the next generation of clergy leaders!

If you are considering giving in 2020, it is not too late! Gifts must be received or postmarked by December 31. If you want to give appreciated stock, act soon. Contact us today to learn more about ways to give.

As we look forward to 2021, while we do not know what it will look like, we know that God will still be on the throne and we look forward with anticipation to the ways He will continue to provide. Thank you for partnering with us in 2020 and we look forward to the new year.

KAUMF Spring Seminary Scholarship deadline Jan. 8

The Kansas Area United Methodist Foundation is pleased to announce that applications are currently being accepted for the spring KAUMF Seminary Scholarship. The deadline to apply for the 2021 spring semester scholarship is January 8, 2021. The application is available online at www.kaumf.org

The scholarship is available to seminary students who are a certified candidate for ministry or a provisional member of the Great Plains Conference from churches in Kansas. The full list of guidelines and eligibility requirements can be found on the Foundation’s website

The Kansas Area United Methodist Foundation Seminary Scholarship Fund was started by the Kansas West Conference with the goal of raising $4 million to help persons called into ministry graduate from seminary without debt. The Foundation is honored to continue helping seminary students in the Great Plains Conference.

The Foundation is grateful for the many families and churches who have given to help make the scholarships possible. If you are interested in helping to raise up the next generations of church leaders or if your church has resources dedicated to helping students go to seminary, but do not currently have students in the church to support, we would be honored to partner with you. Please contact the Foundation at 888-453-8405, foundation@kaumf.org, or visit our website www.kaumf.org.

November Investment Summary

The Foundation’s investments continue to outperform, especially this past month! The Balanced Fund in November was up 9.37%, and has a Year-to-Date net-of-investment-fee return of 14.31%. That is very strong, especially given the pandemic recession. Remember that markets go up and down in the short-term, so having the longer-term perspective is vital. Please find more information regarding our investment at www.kaumf.org/investments.

Rates of Return as of November 30, 2020; Net of Investment Fees:
